It’s not been so hot here in Sydney recently. In fact it’s generally somewhere between windy and cold. Nevertheless, I have cast my mind back to a summer drive home from work in peak hour traffic to bring you this response to the “get your poem on #35″ prompt at Read Write Poem.
~~~
profuse bleedings
of sun drenched eucalypt
spill into tar paved creeks
where unlucky natives
gather blow-flies
and occasional sorrowful eyes
drifting downstream
toward open waters
on petrol and diesel rafts
within splendid membranes
gathering steam
pushing a way through the seams
jostling into
perceived faster currents
seeking relief by a breeze
scrapers and glances
casting their glare
on matches that threaten to flare
slumping ashore
closing heat by the door
of conditioned electrical plumes
with one exhalation
their motions kinetic
belie a desire to be static
